Often traders that are successful scoff at maxims, that don t have any value and that are general and belong more in an explanation of random walk theory than in a trading plan . He believes that success in trading requires more than than the right choice of a maxim. "Nothing is so useless as a general maxim" . Thomas Babington Lord Macaulay 1859 Supposedly, if any one rule or maxim was invariably correct its validity would be eliminated because it would be followed so much . Human nature is such that any valid maxims are broken with monotonous regularity . If we have a great maxim , does it really mean much ? Because most people will not pay any attention to it anyway . People can t remember everything . Perhaps Lord Macaulay was really right. There are some of those maxims out there, which can be applied in commodity trading. There are some that you should remember because they are profound. Take you re choice . In fact , I suggest that you make you re own collection of maxims that are good to you and repeatedly question and test them . ESSENTIAL MAXIMS TO KEEP IN MIND The top approach that will enable you to maximize your results is on a small scale playing a favorable game, but still providing a reasonable chance of success , is playing a game that is favorable on a scale that is large avoiding ruin with enough early profits . Even an unfavorable game can give you results that are profitable if one plays seldom and bets heavily . The only road that leads inevitably to disaster is constantly playing a game that is unfavorable . More can be learned when you take a stock technical analysis course . Good sports die broke . Sure things don t exist . Markets don t sleep, but traders do. Dialog is appropriate if the mutual goal is enlightenment . A success that is accidentaly usually ends up a failure that is accidental. Positive and wnegative aspects are manifested in winning. What the few can do, the many cannot accomplish . Take positions along the line of least resistance . Sell famine buy glut . Sell news and buy rumors . Bears and bulls can make money but hogs cannot . Sell too soon and avoid buying at the bottom . Purchase what isn t going to fall in a bear market. Don t purchase seomthing in a bull market that won t go up . Many a healthy reaction has proved fatal . When market opinion leans to one side watch for a trend . There is wisdom in patience . Wait for potential high profits. Unless you have to take frequent positions, trade infrequently . There isn t a maxim that someone won t find a problem with. Put half your profits in a safety deposit box . Money is easier to make than it is to keep . The race doesn t always go to the swift or the battle to the strong, but that s the way to bet . MAXIMS FOR THE PESSIMIST Something that can go wrong will No matter how great your results are, there is a person who will fake a better one. It doesn t matter the results, someone will work to misinterpret it . In any collection of data , the figure that is most obviously correct beyond all need of correcting is where a mistake will be . There s always a way to get a wrong number, even if it s impossible . Broad is the path that leadeth to destruction .
